Cover for accidents starts immediately but there is a 14 day waiting period for illnesses. This means no illness will be covered for the first 14 days of the policy, but that’s the same with any insurance, so there’s nothing you can really do about it.

Important information to consider when upgrading to a full pet insurance policy.

When upgrading your free cover to a full policy, you will have two options:

1. continue with Petplan: make sure you upgrade before your free cover is up and you won’t have another waiting period for illnesses. You’ll have continuous cover.
2. go with another provider: if you’re going with another provider, make sure you buy at least 14 days before your 4 weeks free cover expires. You want to make sure that there is no breach in cover. Remember that your new policy will have a 14-day waiting period on illnesses too. So you don’t want to risk anything happening in that time.
