The excess is £99 they would only pay for the actual extraction. No painkillers or antibiotics were covered. So regardless of how the accident happened the insurance wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I've cancelled my policy now! It would have been cheaper to have saved the monthly installments up and bought him an appropriate toy we would hve been quids in!

Hi Kate,

Really sorry to hear about this very bad experience. How did they work out that you were only entitled to £27? You can't really have an excess of £180, can you?

I am DISGUSTED with my experience with Animal Friends Pet Insurance. The price was great and the customer service was fine. The problem has arisen from the free toy they sent for the dog we insured with them. We took the toy to the park and it smashed his teeth out. Accidents happen right. The subsequent vets bill was £209.27 for which I asked for a full refund. They sent £27, I am insulted. If a full refund was recieved this would be a glowing review. It wasn't. So this isn't. Do yourselves a favour, steer clear spend the £200 on a nice dinner. Wish I could.

Hi Liam,

Very sorry to hear about your dog and the troubles you've had with Animal Friends at this difficult time.

Was that something that was mentioned in the terms and conditions of your policy? If it wasn't clear at all, you could complaint to AFI first, and then go to the Financial Ombudsman if you're not satisfied with their response.

Finally, you can also post this review on www.bestpetinsurancereview.co.uk so other customers don't get caught.

Don't even bother with cover from animal friends. They won't pay for diagnosis or treatment or anything else for any dog over 8 that subsequently dies. SO WHAT WAS THE POINT IN TAKING OUT COVER!
They have continued taking direct debits out of my account even though they have written to me saying how sorry they are to hear that Millie has died. They have now refused to pay a penny towards the cost of diagnosis, pain relief, medication etc. Yes the policy states they don't cover for death due to illness but I don't want the cost of my dog back or the cost of having her put to sleep, just the cost of the pain killers, antibiotics, blood tests and overnight stay.
Don't touch these insurers, put your money elsewhere and give your money direct to the charity of your choice.
